It's been reported that Warner Bros. are toying with the idea of bringing "The Shining" back to life on the BIG-screens. Reboot you say, remake you say, sequel you say, no but prequel I say. Yes the new film, if it gets made will be set before good old crazy Jack Torrence (Jack Nicholson) and his family even step foot into the scary old Overlook Hotel.
In the book, written by legendary author Stephen King, there's a lot of Torrence's past look into. So this prequel could be looking at either his messed up childhood or even just to back to the time the caretaker, Mr Grady and his family set foot in the Overlook. I would love to see the film based around him and his family.
James Vanderbilt, Bradley Fischer and Laeta Kalogridis have all reportedly been brought in to write and produce the planned prequel, but nothing yet has been set in stone with confirmation wise.
Stephen King is also writing a sequel to the original, which will be set in the life of Danny Torrence (Jack's son) at the age of 40 and working in a Hospice helping the sick and dying. He uses his shining to talk to the patients who are near death and helps them die in peace. The book is titled "Dr Sleep". Whether or not Warner make this into a film too is yet unknown, but more focus is on this prequel first.
