So after the news broke that Universal are going ahead with their reboot of "The Mummy" franchise, speculation began on who will be behind this new version of the classic monster series. "Star Trek" writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman signed on to produce the new film, which is being planned for a Summer 2014 release.
Orci and Kurtzman confirmed that this new film and possible trilogy will go in a completely different direction to the previous films, with the script being wrote by Jon Spaihts. They said that it'll be darker and more intense too.
Now "Underworld" director Len Wiseman has signed on to direct the upcoming reboot. He confirmed that there will be no comedy in this version. It's set to be a total horror film set in the modern day.
In a wee way, I actually am excited about this new version of the beloved franchise that ended badly with 2007's "Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor". So maybe it is time to start again. Only franchises that end bad should be rebooted I think.
