Info Post
"Doctor Who" head writer Steven Moffat has said that "Doctor Who" will probably go on forever with the BBC because of the strong viewings and the fact that it's still a MEGA money maker for the studio. He also commented finally on the thought of a female Doctor when or after present Doctor, Matt Smith quits.

“It is a part of Time Lord lore that it can happen. Who knows, the more often it is talked about the more likely it is to happen some day.”

It was rumored for ages that "Sherlock" star Lana Pulver (above), was said to be interested in taking on the role of the very first female Doctor when or after Smith quits. She later denied all rumors saying that.
I like the thought of seeing a female Doctor someday, but I don't know if I or anyone else would actually enjoy it if it ever did really happen.
