Brady Quinn, the backup quarterback to sensation Tim Tebow, was interviewed by GQ magazine and shared his opinion on "Tebowmania". In the article Quinn said, "We've had a lot of, I guess, luck, to put it simply." He continued to explain why he thought Tebow jumped him on the depth chart, "I felt like the fans had a lot to do with that. Just cause they were chanting his name. There was a big calling for him. No, I don't have any billboards. That would have been nice." Quinn also commented on how he thinks Tebow uses his religion for attention saying he rather pray with his teammates instead of always in front of a camera.
After the article was printed Tuesday, Quinn quickly went to Twitter "explaining" what he really meant and how the article didn't fully portray how he really feels about Tebow. He says, Tebow "deserves a lot of credit for our success and I'm happy for him and what he accomplished. Most importantly, he is a great teammate." Quinn also said he's reached out to Tebow to clear any misunderstandings up and that he "apologizes to anyone who feels I was trying to take anything away from our team's or Tim's success this season."
Right Quinn... I believe you. You think Tebow deserves a lot of credit for taking Denver as far as they went... but if the Broncos didn't believe the hype and put YOU as starter you would have end up winning the Super Bowl right. Team Spirit.
Quinn may in fact actually like Tebow as a person and player but I believe what happened here was his competitive nature came out through this article. I never understood how athletes in professional leagues are "happy" when they're injured or pulled and their backup comes in and plays well. Even if that player is your friend, this is a business and at the end of the day whoever plays the best gets the job. So, Quinn naturally is speaking from a place where this kid came and and took his rightfully earned starting position. My problem is how he tried to act like that wasn't him talking though. You know how you feel and that was you Quinn.
