Info Post
Last October Lincoln Brown, a 48-year old Chicago Public School teacher, was teaching his class about Huckleberry Finn. He noticed two student passing rap lyrics back and forth. He saw this as an opportunity to tie this incident into the book on how saying the "N-Word" can be hurtful. He used it in the context of the story, at that same moment, the principal walked in and found the lesson "shocking and cruel." He suspended Brown for using the word, and now the teacher has filed a federal lawsuit against his district. I don't think no other race, ethnic group, whatever you want to call it, should say Nigga besides black people. That is our word, plain and simple. Nobody on the planet should be saying Nigger even blacks, because of the specific history attached to that word unless you're willing to pay for the consequences of your actions if the right black person hears you and especially if you're not black. I am not that person that's going to call out every non-black person who says it though, unless it's being used in a derogatory unnatural manner. I just feel that it's black people's word. In addition, I do not feel this teacher should have been suspended, he was clearly using this matter as a teach method, but yet again another scenario where the school system is uptight about race, religion, sexuality, internet, etc.
